Today we have a Title Teaser from the place where everything is bigger...you guessed it - Texas!!! Today's Texas Title Teaser is brought to you by the letters J and D (for Jennifer Draut)

I am fascinated by a great title, if it does a good job it gets your attention right away. Where does your page start? Often it's the photos or the story you want to tell. The title is the place where telling that story begins. Today I challenge you to make your title the second runner up on your page - right behind your photos or maybe even the shining start itself. Maybe your photos don't quite tell the story you are after or maybe you don't even have any photos for the story that needs to get out!

I found this fantastic page in the ScrapMatters gallery a while back and bookmarked it. Fonnetta did a wonderful job drawing me in, how about you?

You read the title and then saw the photo of the lovely child and wanted to know more...right? Didn't you read the journaling and then admire the beautiful colors and design of the page? Yup, me too! I said "awwww" then "awwww" then a few more! Everything that I love about scrapbooking is illustrated in this page. I feel something when I look at this page. I want to cheer for this little girl and her parents!

So now I ask you, what is music to your ears? Is it your baby giggling? Your cat purring? Kids laughing in the sprinklers? Your husband snoring? (Don't laugh, sometimes I find it comforting...he's still breathing!) Your car revving up? The wind blowing through the trees? Your phone notifying you that it's your turn to play Words With Friends? Now go scrapbook it!

Justify Your Text - How To...

Hi Friends!
It's Kairyn here with a "How To".

Have you ever seen those cute little journaling blocks where the edges of the text lines up on both sides for every line? Here's an example using Chelle's newest kit Something Fishy (available only at ScrapMatters:

See how it's in a nice neat rectangle, like print in a newspaper? The text is "justified". When I was a Paint Shop Pro and GIMP user, this was a quick option in the text options box. For those who use PhotoShop, it's also a simple thing to do. When I started using PhotoShop Elements, I was so sad to see "Left Justified, Right Justified and Center Justified" and that the plain old "Justified" option wasn't available. Then I read somewhere that is was possible, and easy to do... just "hold Shift and Ctrl and click J". Well, let me tell you - I tried selecting the text and clicking the buttons, I tried just having the text layer selected and clicking... I tried and tried! It was impossible and SO frustrating! I couldn't do it, and yet people were telling me it was possible!

I'm happy to say I've figured it out! Woo-hoo! It does involve "hold Shift and Ctrl and click J", but it's a bit more involved than that! lol

Alright, I didn't make any screen shots, because I'm thinking this is easy enough to explain... but if you don't "get it" just leave a message and I'll help ya out, okay?

Start with your psd file... decide where you want your text to be, click "T" to get to the text tool (or just click the text tool - but I LOVE using keyboard shortcuts whenever possible). Then click and drag with your mouse to create a text box. (This means, click, hold down the left mouse button and drag the mouse to make a box the size you desire and let go of the mouse button.) Click inside the newly made text box and type your details. Then hold the Ctrl button and click A to select all of the text. We're nearly done... are you still with me? Here's the last step... NOW hold down the Shift and Ctrl buttons and click J.

Wah-lah! You should now have text that lines up on both sides, cool huh? I'd love to see what you did... leave me a comment with a link to your LO, and I'll come and leave you some well deserved love!

So How do you use those torn edges?

Here's a simple way to use the tears. The screenshots are from PSE 9. I am not "tearing" the dark orange paper...it's my background (and I needed you to be able to see the tear)

Step 1. Place the tear on a 12x12 file. Make sure it goes all the way to the top & bottom (they are slightly longer than 12 inches, so this shouldn't be difficult.)

Step 2. Use the magic wand to select the empty space on the right side of the tear.

Step 3: To make sure the paper goes all the way to the tear, we need to make the selection a tiny bit bigger. Under Select>Modify>Expand...

...and choose 2 pixels

Step 4: We need to make a new layer UNDER the tear. Make sure the bottom layer is selected, then click on the "new layer" icon in the layers palette (see the tiny dialog box in the very bottom right corner...click there)

Step 5: Now fill the selection on the new layer...doesn't matter the color, we are making a mask to attach our paper to. Under Edit>Fill Selection

Now it will look like this:

Step 6: Drag the paper you want to "tear" onto the stack OVER the mask, UNDER the tear.

Step 7: "Clip" the paper to the mask. Make sure the paper layer is selected, then hit Ctrl-G (or Command-G on the mac)

Step 8: Merge the 3 layers: tear, paper, & mask.

Step 9: Add a shadow (you can move your paper around to exactly where you want it now)

That's it. See? Not hard at all.

Doesn't that make you want ALL of the torn edges?

Hi friends- Whit here to bring you some layouts that really show off Chelle's products this week! The first layout I'm sharing is Animal's You Love by LeeAndrea. I just love the idea of the little animals and how her daughter pronounces each of them- sooo cute!

Lemons by Aussiegirl was a layout that I thought was perfect to share with you as summer is approaching! LOVE the colors and elements- adorable word art too!

How'd They Do That? Gradients

Hi Everyone! It's Jenn (jk703) here to share a fun idea to use on photos, and even background papers.

Gradients That Fade

Start a New Document, by Right Clicking and Duplicating your photo in a New or Untitled file. Save. You will have the original if you need it by doing this step.

Within the Layers Palette, click on the "Mask" icon at the bottom of the palette.

This will add a layer mask, which you can see next to your photo. This fade is essentially a white/black fade, a transparent mask for your photo. The white in the mask will allow the picture to show through, while black will hide parts of the the picture. The middle grey areas will affect how transparent your picture will be.

Go to the Toolbars, and use the Gradient Tool.

In the top toolbar, you will also see the options that you can change for your mask. How it looks, the colors and the transparency.

Next, you will click on your layer mask in the Layers Palette, so you know you are going to create your mask in the correct location.

Now, click on the bottom of your picture in the middle and hold your mouse. Slowly, drag the cursor upward, diagonal, or whichever way you want the fade to show. Stop where you want the fade to end and let the mouse button go. A faded layer mask - complete.

First, here is my original picture:

For this example, I used the faint grey gradient in the lower right corner. There is a slight darkness that comes from the lower left corner. I was adding a little more shadow to make the sunrise really pop!

In the following example, I used one of the colored ones, specifically the yellow into orange gradient. I also adjusted the opacity so it wasn't so bright.

It added a fun color to my photo and really makes the colors of the sunrise stand out. A simple but fun addition to my photo.

Yikes! I better get your freebie before the train leaves the station...

The theme for our collab this weekend is Timeless. It reminds me of a quilt I made...

I am fortunate to have several old photos of our grandparents and great grandparents. I picked some of my favorites and turned them sepia and printed them on fabric (I ironed cotton pre-washed fabric onto Reynolds Freezer Paper -- the smidgen of wax on the freezer paper helps them "stick" together and provides stability for the fabric. Then cut them into 8.5x11 sheets and ran them through my inkjet printer. I waited overnight, then I peeled off the paper and rinsed them with cold water and ironed them flat.)

For a couple of months I watched for fabrics in brown shades that "matched" what the people were wearing in the photo. It took a while to patch everything together and it was quite challenging to quilt wool & leather, but I love how it turned out. It hangs over the stairs where my kids see it everyday...and we talk about the stories of their lives.

Kairyn here with the Saturday Standouts this week! Before we get into that, are you enjoying all the fun at ScrapMatters for iNSD weekend? Oh my! SO much going on! Did you take advantage of Chelle's great sales? Did you see all the fun games, contests and Speed Scraps going on in the SM forum? Wow! What a fantastic weekend!

I was looking through the gallery and found some wonderful layouts by Chelle's fans... look at this one:

Forbidden Journey by ana_carol uses Chelle's Dragons kit. I love the paper strips under the photo and the title work is terrific!

Putting Around by longhorn is another stupendous layout using Hole in One... I love the slanted paper showing the putting green paper underneath, and look at all her layers!

Day at the Denver Zoo by nof007750 is so cute! I love her boys in their snowsuits! This was done using Chelle's latest release Zoo-pendous!

And even though I'm supposed to stop with three, I have to show you one more! lol

Soccer by ShortCake is just too fun to ignore! I love the photos of his jersey and the scattering of buttons and balls! She used Chelle's Kick It! kit for this fun layout!

How They Do That? High Pass Filter

Hi Everyone... It's Jenn (jk703) here to show a sneaky easy peasy tutorial to sharpen with a slight pop for your photos! Plus, we are going to learn another filter that is available in Photoshop and Photoshop Elements. We are going to look at the High Pass Filter today...

The High Pass Filter adds a little pop to your photos within seconds and is really easy. The filter allows you to control the awareness and emphasis of the edges of objects that are in your photos. It is also used to sharpen your photos when they might just be a tad out of focus. Here we go...

Here is a Colin... my model for this tutorial! lol! My image is unedited and hasn't been processed at all.

1. First, save your image so the original will be available in case there are any problems. Duplicate your photo onto a new layer. (PC Ctrl-J and Mac Cmd-J).

2. Working on the new layer, choose Filter > Other > High Pass.

3. Set the radius of the pixels somewhere between 3 and 12. Click on Apply. I know that is a large range, but play with it, you can always undo! For my example, I used a radius of 4.7.

4. Now, in the Layers Palette, you are going to change the blend mode of the duplicate image, the one that is grayed out. Choose Overlay.

5. Play with the opacity of the overlay, and you will see slight differences in the edges in your photo. This brings out some of the color and allows for an easy simple pop.

Tips:

To sharpen the photo without a color pop, try the Soft light or Hard Light blend modes.
Adjust the sharpness based on what you will be doing with the photo - print or web versions.
Try creating different layers, and changing the blend modes, and opacity to see what you like the best.
Try it out on your layouts before uploading to the galleries! A little sharpness goes a long way!

Another example is my sandwich, yes... my life-like magnet sandwich! Looks realistic, right?!

See the top of the sandwich and edges -- they are a little more defined with just a tad of a pop added to the color.

Hi everyone! Roxana here with the gallery standouts of the week.

This fantastic layout by Patti caught my attention right away. Love her amazing clusterings and that journaling is just fabulous! And what can I say about the white BG, well just perfect for the colors she chose, makes all the elements pop!

This layout by KSCroppyChick is just amazing! Love all the negative space and the kraft paper, screwed and stitched at the same time, just a perfect frame for that BG. The chicken wire behind the pic adds the perfect touch to her page!

And this last one is just awesome. Made by tanyariley, it's seriously one of the most amazing group of layouts I've ever seen. A documentation of all the pets in her life, such an incredible and creative idea, just brilliant!

How To: Add A Watercolor Effect

Hi everyone! It's Jenn, aka jk703 here for a visit! I've had a rough week already, so it is nice to be able to check out the forums, and pop into the blog here and share a fun technique!

We are going to delve into the Filters that you have in Photoshop! I know, you are probably repeating what I said when I first heard of Filters. "Fil... what - is that another tool in Photoshop?" The first one that I am going to show you is the Watercolor Effect. This is a part of the Artistic submenu in your Filters Menu.

First, here is Colin... don't mind the pic... it was taken after a bad haircut recently, lol!

OK... First things first. Open your image, and edit as you need. Save the file with a new name. This way you have the original to fall back on if there are any problems.

Next, in your layers Palette, duplicate your background image (your picture), and then turn off that layers visibility. Using the Eraser Tool, you will slowly erase the edges of your image, and with each pass, get a little closer to the main subject. Removing the image can allow for focus, as well as a cool option in the end!

Here is my Eraser's settings when I erased my picture edges.

Here is Colin, less the pesky edges. :) Below Colin, you can see my Layers palette and what yours might look like up to this point.

Up next is the fun filtering! In the top menu toolbar, you need to choose Filter > Artistic > Watercolor.

After you click on Watercolor, a big screen will pop up, and then your photo will appear -- a rather large version! I made mine smaller and started to play with the filter. First, here are just some of the filtering effects you can play with, and under each subheading are more! You have to try them all out!

On the right of the menu you can see the list of the filters that you can play with on your image. Next to that, on the right, there is a small area with different levels and options you can change. This potion will change for each filter.

So, for my example, I click on Watercolor and this is what I came up with:

It is a little hard to see, so I've added a closer view:

A nice little effect to change up your photos. That is it... nice, and simple! Remember above, I said to turn off the visibility of your original picture.... well, here is what happens when you turn it back on. I've added the picture of Colin close up again, so you might be able to really see the detail.

Take a closer look at the meeting point between the areas that I had erased and the areas that are watercolored. There is a slight blend of the original and the Watercolor Filter. Looks pretty cool! I know it is a close up, but on something a little more focused, I think this will look really cool.

Some final tips with the Watercolor Filter:

For the best results - erase most or or all of the background before applying the filter.
Lighter colored photos give a delicate feel, while darker colored photos will provide a moody after effect.
If you lose a lot of details, duplicate your original photo and layering the duplicate on top of the Watercolored Filter layer. After moving it above, choose the Multiply Blending mode, adjust the opacity, and this will allow you to bring those details back.

First up is this fantastic layout by kv2av. I just love all the paper layers and the focal horizontal bit of embellishments below the photo:

Here's another fantastic sports-themed layout by sidsymarie. I love the stitching in the corners and the bits of word art they frame.

And last but certainly not least is ANOTHER sports themed layout (I must have sports on the brain or something), this one by scrappycharmer. Terrific cluster in the bottom right and I am totally in love with the silhouettes.

Everyone Chelle has taken a much needed break this week to re-energize and spend some time with her family! She has been working like crazy the past few months working like crazy! So this break was definitely needed. She will be back with a new release next week. But for this week I want to highlight some of my favorite Chelle products!

Stitch Me Up: Combo I use stitches on a lot of my layouts and these are the best out there. The separate holes make shadowing a cinch!

Wet Paint Alpha An incredibly versatile alpha! Great for titlework and gives a paper feel to your pages! Recolors fabulously!

Celebrate Brite! I am a sucker for birthday kits and this one has it all! Fun colors and great elements! I have used it to scrap at least 3 different birthday parties!

And finally, Penalty Box. We are huge hockey fans and great hockey kits are few and far between. This kit has it all! I love it and all the add on colors. In fact, all of the sports kits are a great buy!

How To - Get more from your frames with the rectangle marquee tool

Hello everyone,

It's Kayla aka keepscrappin here today to share a tip with you. We all love our digi supplies and one of the things I love most about digi supplies is the ability to get more from them. Today, I'm going to show you how to get more from the frames in your digi scrappin stash.

I used Chelle's Creations awesome Spring Breeze kit for our sample layout.

Now, you might be thinking I'm crazy because I don't have a frame on this layout - but do I? (insert evil laugh)

Yes, I do have a frame on my layout. However, I didn't use it as a frame. See the two strips of white paper stitched down on the edge of my paper stack? That was a frame. I just used a little photoshop magic and changed that frame to something that would work better for my layout. And guess what - it was totally easy!

Here's how I did it.

I'm using PSE 7, but I'm sure you can do something similar in other programs.

First open the frame in your photo editing software and SAVE AS a different name so you don't ruin your original frame. I'm using the frame named - cc_springbreeze_double frame.png

I've added a gray background so you can see the frame in the photo.

Then, get your Rectangle marquee tool and select the first box in the option bar as shown in the image below.

Now, draw a selection to remove one side of the frame as in the image below - leaving only the strip of paper that is stitched down.

* Remember that you can reposition your selection by holding down the spacebar before you let up on the mouse to get it right along the edge of the stitched down portion.

Now hit delete.
Then, use your mouse or arrow keys to move the selection to the other side and to select the remaining unwanted portion of the frame.
Hit delete again and you've got yourself a new embellishment for your scrapbook page. Leave it as is or add some more embellishments as desired.

Easy Peasy right! You'll never look at another frame the same again, cuz now you know that it can be so much more with just a little photoshop magic. lol

We are rewinding the clock today and looking at an oldie, but goodie in Chelle's Shop! Shanell here doing my favorite thing on the blog: talking about my favorite products! I love layers. I love stacking, but I find it takes me a long time to get it right. I'm constantly moving things about and trying to get it to look right. Well, when Chelle came out with these my heart sang out!

I LOVE these templates. It makes it super easy for me to "get it right" with out spending a lot of time doing it. I use these ALL. THE. TIME! I use them seperately and together with other layers. I will stack a couple together to get this effect:

Cara (aka colson) here today with a "How To" tip. Recently I was working on a layout and it spoke to me – does that ever happen to you? – and I needed a photo mask to make it work. And although the kit I was working with had absolutely everything I could possibly want for my layout, it didn’t have a photo mask. So, I was off to teach myself how to make one. Here’s the steps I used to create my own. I hope that you will give it a try as well. Now there may very well be quicker or even better ways to create a photo mask, but that’s what’s great about Photoshop – there’s always more than one way!

I’ll start with a blank canvas and use the “D” shortcut to reset my colors to default (black and white). I will make the general shape that I want my finished mask to be. You can make it rectangular, square, circular, oval or any random shape. For this demonstration, I’ll make a square mask so I’ll choose the Rectangle tool and make a black square.

Now, I didn't do it in this example, but you could add Feathered pixels so you have a softer outline.

Next (this is where the magic is!), you’ll choose brushes that carry the same theme of your photo or layout – or just pick ones you like. If you don’t have many brushes in your toolbox, check out sites like myphotoshopbrushes.com and brusheezy.com for some fantastic free brushes. Select the Brush tool and choose a 250-300 pixel compact brush that will work with your theme. Then go crazy painting with it to “hide” the square so it has a more organic feel. Don’t worry that you used a single brush here – we’ll fix that in a bit. Here’s what my square looks like after going crazy with one brush – and I “stamped” it singly off to the side so you could see what I used.

Now we’ll add some flair - I’m going to make a springtime/floral-themed mask, so I’ll choose some brushes of that type. Here’s my square after adding some floral brushes to the outer edges. Notice there are some tendrils – these add some definite interest, but keep in mind that your photo will need to extend that far. (Tip: sometimes it helps to have your photo in mind before creating a custom mask.)

Sometimes, depending on your brush and how your mask is looking, you may need to flip your canvas to make it look right.

You may also want to change the opacity of your brush if you want it to blend into your background paper. I recommend for the best results, starting with a 100% opacity brush, then filling in with brushes at 50-60% opacity – whatever you’re happy with.

It may take a little time to get it just right (the Undo button is my best friend!) but soon you’ll be a mask-making pro! And here’s my final mask with a picture of my mom and her sisters from 1946 – a nice jumping off point for a layout.

Here’s the layout that inspired this tutorial (using Chelle’s kits: Tell Me More, Here Kitty Kitty, Blessings, and Festival Alpha).

Hey everyone!

My name is Bree, and I'm lucky enough to be guesting on Chelle's amazing creative team this month. It really has been a blast being back here with everyone, and getting to play with all of her amazing creations. One of the super cool parts of being on a CT is to see what everyone does with all of the different kits- it's just awesome to get inspiration from other scrappers, isn't it? So grab a cup of coffee on this wonderful spring Saturday morning, and let's take a peek at Chelle's gallery, shall we?

I love this beauty by azrood! Everything about it- the detailed photos, wonderful framing, expressive journaling, and fiberous textures- draw you in and make you want to keep staring. Love it!

I so deeply admire the patience it must take to do hybrid projects, so this one just popped out of the gallery for me. Look at all the cuteness bydelstorp packed into this tiny teapocket as a sweet loving token for her husband. So thoughtful, and a great use of a themed kit for other purposes!

Another stunner! The sense of design here is just fabulous- using such a vivid visual triangle really moves the eye around the page, and gives Lisa a chance to get the most out of all of those fun elements. Excellent work!

And finally, I couldn't have a March post without adding a little March Madness! Shari combines an amazing kinetic energy to the page with the bounding basketballs, and really works her stunning photos to her advantage. Great subtle use of elements, too!

Tutorial: Basic Extractions

HI Everyone! It's Wednesday and I'm (Jenn/jk703/The Typative Scrapper) back to share a tutorial for you! Today I will touch on Extractions, using the Magnetic Lasso Tool.

Extractions are a time consuming task, and it takes a lot of practice! I, by no means am an expert at this, but I have the basics down! There are basic things that you can learn how to extract, and after you learn them, you could extract anything! There are multiple ways to extract images: Extraction Filters and Presets, Magic Wand, Polygonal Lasso Tool, Pen Tool and the Erase Tool. My example will show how to extract using the Magnetic Lasso Tool. It is easy to extract an object but very difficult to extract hair from a windy day picture. I'm going to start with the basic extraction of a person. Meet my son, Shayne. :)

OK… first things first. Open your photo, Crop, and complete any photo treatments and photo corrections. Save this as a new file, so the original will be available later, if needed.

Double click on your photo layer in the Layers Palette and the little Lock will disappear on your background, changing the picture to a layer.

Next, Choose the Lasso Tool from the toolbar, and choose the sub menu tool: Magnetic Lasso Tool. This tool allows you to slowly go over the edges of the image you want to extract, adding anchor points throughout the edges. My example uses a feather of 3 pixels, and a width of 7 pixels between automatic anchor points.

With your photo selected in the Layers Palette, slowly move the Magnetic Lasso tool around the edge. You will see anchor points popping up as you move along. If you accidentally went the wrong direction, you can slowly move backward to remove the last anchor point, or you can press delete. Unfortunately, I'm unable to get a screen shot of the anchor points - they disappear when I try!

Once you have connected your anchor points, you will have the marching ants around your image, the portion that you want to extract.

Next, you can refine the edges by clicking on the Refine Edge in the Magnetic Lasso menu bar. The items I use the most are the Feather and Shift Edge. The feather gives the edges a softer look, and the Shift Edge helps remove unwanted background colors from the selections edges.

After you've refined the edges, you will choose Select > Edit in Quick Mask Mode. You image will have the background in bright red, and the image will remain in color. The red will be the section that is to be removed. At this point, you will either add or subtract to your selection by using the Selection Buttons.

Selection Buttons:

Choose Select > Inverse. Your marching ants will have moved from around your selection to marching around the background. Press Delete. You image is extracted, and the background has been replaced with the invisible background. Right click on the image in the layers bar, and duplicate it to your layout or project.

Today is a special Monday for me -- it's my son's birthday! He turns four years old today. Where has the time gone? In honor of his birth, I wanted to share with you Chelle's Beary Cute Baby Boy combo:

For my LO, I took two of the templates included in the combo and combined them together. Also, I added the name and date element that's shown in the preview on the bottle and filled out all the info on it, but then decided to take it off for my web layout. Of course, when I print the layout, I'll use the one with all the info on it. So here's my little boy, back on the day he was born:

Just in case you aren't as lucky as me to have the world's cutest boy, or even the second cutest boy, Chelle has a matching kit just for girls that's every bit as adorable, but well, pink.

Oh So Simple Selective Coloring Tutorial!

Hi Everyone! It's Wednesday - time for another tutorial! Yeah! I'm Jenn (jk703/The Typative Scrapper) here to share a cool new photo technique that I learned! It is so fun, and really makes for some fantastic pops to your pictures! I'm going to show you how to EASILY do selective coloring to your pictures! Easy... YES! Woot!

OK, let's get started! First, open your photo, and save a copy so the original will be available if it is ever needed. Complete any cropping, brightening or toning adjustments that you'd like. Then comes the good stuff! :) By the way, this is Colin... from last St. Patty's Day. He is my youngest, and my ham!

In the Layers Palette, click on the Adjustment icon, and then choose Hue/Saturation from the list.

Press D on your keyboard to make sure that your background and foreground colors (black and white) are back to the default setting.

With the adjustment layer selected, click on Edit in the Menu Bar, and then choose Fill.

The Fill Menu will pop up so you could change the color, add a gradient, or a bunch of other things. Make sure that white is listed. Click ok.

Now, when I look over at my Layers Palette, I see the Adjustment Palette showing. I am going to move the bar for Saturation all the way to the left. This will remove all color from the photo.

When looking at the Layers Palette, my adjustment is still selected. Make sure that your adjustment layer is selected, and your "adjustment thumbnail" is selected.

Click on the Brush Tool, and then choose a soft round brush. I used Approx. 65, soft, and at 100% opacity.

Paint over the desired areas of your photo that you want to bring color back. As you paint, the color will re-appear and the grey will disappear. Change your brush size as you get closer to edges and areas that you don't want color to appear.

See the above picture - there is some slight brown/glow showing on the upper edges around the hat. I need to fix that! So, if you accidentally paint an area that you want to stay gray, all you have to do is switch the brush color from black to white. Then paint the spots back to grey. Easy Peasy!

Good Morning! It is Shanell here today with a little quickie creation. Are you ever stuck with an idea of how you want to scrap? Or, do you get great inspiration from posters/book covers/ ads and just roll with it? Well, this quickie creation today will hopefully help all of you. I made a sketch. A very loose "drawing" of a page I wanted to create. Then, from that sketch, I just went with it. I added more and changed it up a bit too, but my starting point was the sketch.

So once I had the idea on "paper" I was able to just let the creativity flow. I hope you can use this inspiration to create something QUICKLY too! Here is my final page from the sketch!

I used the new Festive Alpha that was released on Friday from Chelle! I ADORE this alpha and can see me using it on every layout for a while. Plus, who would have thought Choo Choo, Back 2 School, Doodley Doo Shapes and Holly Jolly Holiday Glitters would go together so well??? I hope the sketch inspires some creativity in you! Monday Flashback Time!

Does it almost feel like Spring is on it's way? Sort of? Even a little? It's Kairyn here with a Spring flashback! No, Spring doesn't feel right around the corner here...not with five foot snowbanks outside my door, but I know it's coming. Just this morning we saw TWO Pileated Woodpeckers checking the nearby trees for bugs!

Bug Catcher is a great Spring-y feeling kit! Why not scrap some Spring today? It always makes me feel warmer!

Today's Tips: Saving for the Gallery!

Hi everyone!!!! It's Jenn... aka jk703 here to share a little tidbit for you today! When I first started scrapping digitally, I was so green and so baffled most of the time! Things get easier as you learn more about your program, play with features and try new things out.

So, when I first started, I was so confused about saving for the galleries that I literally no clue what I was doing! Today's tutorial is to help you Save for a Gallery Upload! Hope you enjoy it!

For my example, I've used Chelle's Blessings Kit. It is a beautiful kit and perfect for many milestone pages, such as births, weddings, communions, and other events you would like to scrap! My layouts end up being 600x600 at 72 dpi. I usually scrap double pages, and will convert each side to it's own file for the web as well as a file for my album uploading.

This is my layout, it is linked to my Page 1 in the gallery, if you want to see how it turns out:

First, you should have your layout open in Photoshop.

Flatten the image by right clicking on the topmost layer in your layers palette and choosing "Flatten Image."

Duplicate the layer. You should have a Background layer and a Background Copy layer. You can re-name this Sharpen if you like or something you prefer.

Next, you will run the High Pass Filter on the duplicated layer (Background Copy or Sharpen if you renamed). Click on the Filter in the Menu bar > Other > High Pass.

My pages usually use a figure between 1.4 and 4. More than that makes my layout look off. Click ok. You should now see a grey box on the layer above your layout. Do not flatten at this point.

Next is the addition of a Color Pop, though this is optional. To add a Color Pop, add an adjustment layer to the original layout layer, Background.

Your adjustment layer is an adjustment in Hue/Saturation, and you will be changing the saturation specifically. My mouse moved, so my screen print changed when I took the "picture," so your Hue/Saturation should be highlighted on your screen. Click on Hue/Saturation. You will be brought to this screen.

The range can be anywhere from +1 to +10, depending on the colors and brightness of your photos or kit choice. Once the Color Pop is added, you can change the opacity to lower how much of a POP you want. Just make sure you have the Hue/Saturation adjustment layer selected in the layers palette, so you are adjusting the correct layer's opacity.

Flatten the image. Depending on your needs, you can save this version as a jpg since it is still full size. It will be ready for uploading to an album. If you are going to upload to a gallery, here is what I do.

First, choose Image on the Menu Bar, and choose Image Size. Change the 3600 x 3600 sizes (or 12 x 12) that are there to 600 x 600 (or 2 x 2). Click ok.

Next, choose Save for Web and Devices from the File Menu drop down. You will be brought to a different screen from your original layout.

In the top right of the Save for Web Screen, you should see an options panel or menu drop down, click on this. Click and choose, Optimize to File Size and a menu will pop up.

Enter in the number you wish -- I always enter 149.5, just to be sure I am below the 150kb limit. Click ok, and your image re-sets to the correct highest quality for the size.

Click save, and save your WEB version. That's it.... nice right sized, sharpened, gallery layouts - ready to go! There are multiple ways to sharpen and re-size, I just thought I'd share this one, as it is just my own method. That is a great time-saver to use that optimize feature, right?!

Once you get used to these steps, try to save them as an action! Then all you have to do is click the button and presto! :)

Hello! Shanell Here to bring you a Monday edition of Product Flashback! A few weeks ago when the CT was making the valentine project, I found the Homemade kit was not one in my stash. I quickly got it and fell in L.O.V.E! I couldn't believe all the little details that Chelle had put into this kit! It was so fabulous, that I knew I had to share it with all of you.

What I loved most were the little baking touches. There are cupcake liner flowers, cupcake liner rounds, the frosting flowers in three colors are adorable! Plus the muffins, cookies, and cupcakes! We all know how awesome Chelle's felties are...you will not be disappointed with these ones either! I also had fun playing with the Christmas Add-on...
Did you realize there were TWO entire FELT ALPHAS in this kit??? plus, can you even say how cute the polka dot mitten is??? I used these two kits, which coordinate beautifully, to make a two pager about some Christmas cookies

My girls couldn't get over the chocolate chip cookies and sprinkles. I loved all the baking elements that I could use. My favorite though, I mentioned before, the CUPCAKE LINERS! Seriously cute stuff! If you haven't checked this out, I would take a closer peek!

Kayla (keepscrappin) also used it in a layout not about baking, that was super cute of her little girl.

Hi everyone! Tracy back with another installment of gallery standouts. I say this every time, but I am always SO inspired by the beautiful work in Chelle's gallery!!

This first project is by digiScrappingBetty. Wouldn't you just love to get this beautiful thank you card along with your Girl Scout cookies? Makes a yummy treat even more special.

This layout by msbrad is so soft and pretty. I love the repeated circular theme and the offset layered background.

And finally, this layout by scrappin5kids is deceptively simple. But look a little closer and check out the amazing shadows on the little cluster in the bottom corner! Beautiful!
